Products-SUSTAINABLE High Tech SUB-IRRIGATION REDUCES WATER USE
CWI is the container irrigation insert designed to be dropped into most standard decorative containers, for exterior and interior pots and planters. The CWI uses Planter Technology's water-smart vacuum-sensor technology to precisely monitor the soil moisture level, irrigating the plant only when the soil starts to dry. Little or no water is allowed to evaporate off the surface, and only excess rainwater drains through the drainage adapter.
We have found that the CWI insert by Planter Technology reduces our plant replacement costs significantly. Our plants live longer and grow healthier in CWI insert than in any other planter. And, the labor we save can be passed along to our customers in the form of lower maintenance costs. Since the plants look great all the time, our clients are delighted!
Without the CWI interest planters, the first few days after a plant is watered, the plant may be too wet. Then in the last day or two of the cycle, the plant is too dry. This stresses to the plant. Although many plants need a wet/dry cycle, the cycle should ideally be long without extremes of wet or dry. How much water and how frequently depends of course on the type of plant, the light and temperature factors and many other variables as well.
- Keeps plants healthy, strong and stress free by balancing moisture and oxygen levels in the soil at all times
- -Integrated exterior drainage adapter allows excess rainfall to overflow but prevents drainage of irrigation water during normal outdoor use.
- -Will not leak or sweat, prevents staining of terra-cotta containers
- Large fill hole accommodates a garden hose for easy filling

Although many plants need a wet/dry cycle, the cycle should ideally be long without extremes of wet or dry. How much water and how frequently depends of course on the type of plant, the light and temperature factors and many other variables as well.
The CWI is the scientific solution to the challenge of maintaining a moderated wet/dry cycle free from extremes-- the plant sips water according to its needs. The CWI container contains a vacuum-controlled water reservoir built in around the interior soil area. A special porous sensor tube is connected to the water reservoir. At the end of the tube is a special medical-grade wick. When the plant is wet, the wick swells and stops air flow to the top of the reservoir-- and vacuum stops the downward water flow. When the plant dries, the wick shrinks and air flows back into the reservoir top, allowing the water to drop and feed the roots.
Since each plant's water use determines when the root ball becomes dry, it controls the opening and closing of the reservoir. The moisture control sensor, a patented invention, is continually adjusting the amount of water based on the environmental conditions present
Absence of water stress allows plants even in low light situations to look fit and healthy for years. Typically the interiorscape industry experiences a 25 to 30 percent per year replacement rate for interior plants. By using Planter Tech technology, Greenworks has a less than 5 percent loss rate.
