Planter Technology's Controlled Watering System (CWS). We have found that the CWS by Planter Technology reduces our plant replacement costs significantly. Our plants live longer and grow healthier in CWS than in any other planter. And, the labor we save can be passed along to our customers in the form of lower maintenance costs. Since the plants look great all the time, our clients are delighted! Without the CWS planters, the first few days after a plant is watered, the plant may be too wet. Then in the last day or two of the cycle, the plant is too dry. This stresses to the plant. Although many plants need a wet/dry cycle, the cycle should ideally be long without extremes of wet or dry. How much water and how frequently depends of course on the type of plant, the light and temperature factors and many other variables as well. The CWS is the scientific solution to the challenge of maintaining a moderated wet/dry cycle free from extremes-- the plant sips water according to its needs. The CWS container contains a vacuum-controlled water reservoir built in around the interior soil area. A special porous sensor tube is connected to the water reservoir. At the end of the tube is a special medical-grade wick. When the plant is wet, the wick swells and stops air flow to the top of the reservoir-- and vacuum stops the downward water flow. When the plant dries, the wick shrinks and air flows back into the reservoir top, allowing the water to drop and feed the roots.
